Finger Eleven at Empire Theatre

Borrowed the Nikon D3s from school to shoot a Finger Eleven concert at Empire Theatre in Belleville. I should wipe the drool off of it before I give it back tomorrow...

City Council

Something that I've been working on recently is shooting things a little differently than what is the expected or "safe" shot. Every time I enter a situation I need to photograph, I do a 360 look of the room. I look for vantage points, light sources, anything I can climb on etc. Being observant and using the room to your advantage is key for making interesting photographs.

I was assigned to shoot city council in Belleville for the school paper. The woman in the pictures is Maureen Piercy, the president of Loyalist College. She was in front of city council asking for $1 million to pay for equipment for a new building that was built.

Ontario Cup Speed Skating

Had a day free of work and other things so I decided to go down to Yardmen Arena in Belleville and shoot a bit of speed skating. These kids go fast.
Austin Hendy, of Oakville, spins out during a race at the Ontario Cup Finals in Belleville, Ont. The competition was held at Yardmen arena.

I got bored of getting the same shot over and over, so I found an arena worker and he kindly lead me up to the catwalk in order to take some shots. Sometimes all you have to do is ask.

Snow!

Well, it's snowing in Belleville...

Shot a few weather features after I got my assignment done

BELLEVILLE, Ont. - Shawn Antoine shovels his driveway after Belleville received a large quantity of snow on Jan. 12. Many residents choose shoveling over using a snowblower due to the cost of snowblowers and gas. (12/01/2011).

Ponoka News

I recently obtained a few PDFs of my work in Ponoka News. Layouts done by yours truly.
Sports section - Article on leisure activities available for children during Christmas break

The woman on A1 is probably the most amazing woman I have ever met. She organizes a Christmas dinner every year for people who don't have a place to go or families that can't afford it.

She came up with the idea 15 years ago when she was working at a gas station diner in Ponoka and saw oil workers come in on Christmas day. They were away from their families for Christmas.

The next year, she organized a community Christmas and asked various companies for donations of things from gifts for the guests to the actual food served.

She's been organizing the community Christmas since then. Truly amazing.

Dogs

Well, it's almost time for me to leave Alberta...
I'm staying with sort of a friend of a friend of a friend...75-year-old woman who is in love with her dogs. So in exchange for room and board for the three nights spent here, I shot her dogs and have to send her prints. I think it's a good deal.

"People think I'm crazy for talking to my dogs. I know they understand what I say."

Done and Done.

Finished my internship at Ponoka News on the weekend - overall great experience. I would like to thank George, Judy, Susan and Karen for helping me get settled in Alberta for my short stay there. I'll be in Edmonton for a week then back to Belleville soon for last semester.

Here are a few photos that I recently shot/missed before.
